Poetic Injustice

Australian poet, sitting

in the street

on a plastic milk crate

throne . . .

offering reams of rhyme

to passers-by,

he offers, but gets no

takers . . .…

Word of the Week: Living to the east of Boganville

We love the word bogan. We use it to describe those uncouth people that live next door. No longer are we restricted by geography to call the uneducated, unrefined people, westies (if you live in Sydney, for instance)—our vulgar neighbours can now come from the east, the north or the south.

The word bogan has given us—the usually egalitarian Australians—a word to help us gain social…

South East Asia.

An excerpt from a Bookpal blog I think may interest some members -

How Your Book Can Be Distributed in Southeast Asia

As Australian authors, we often think of our local market, the North American market, and the UK market as the prime markets for our books.
Undoubtedly, these markets are the largest segments for English books. However, they are also the most competitive. With the rapid changes in book consumption patterns and a recession in much of the Western world, it…

No entry and no exit

There are no entry and no exit in our life.
No entry and no exit...
Besides birth and death.
We are born into this world

THE LAST TIME YOU KNOCKED ME AROUND

THE LAST TIME YOU KNOCKED ME AROUND  ©JewelRainbow2009

The last time you knocked me around I knew it was the last time

On the end of your punch, as I heard its bruising crunch

As I fell to the floor, as you slammed me into the door as I ran

Did you feel like a real man? Like Ali as you hit me?…

EQUILIBRIUM (a tribute to racehorses)

EQUILIBRIUM (a tribute to racehorses) ©JewelRainbow

Up and off to work before dawn, the first to see the rising sun

Each day finds you already saddled up and ready for your run

Or returning from a pitch-black gallop so your fleet secret is kept

By your rider, trainer and timekeeper who plan to place a hefty bet

Crouched along your strong neck I see the once-real world

Around us framed between your velvet ears like a movie set

Now appear to…

BABY BOOMER CRASH (written in 2009)

BABY BOOMER CRASH ©JewelRainbow2009

The stockmarket crashed last year and turned at once from bull to bear

Savaging those once flush with cash now burned and broken everywhere

Flash homes and cars and credit cards, we’ve now had to discard

Our selfish greed and excess, we’ve now had to redress

Our lazy kids, so overindulged and smugly rich

Now forced reluctantly to ditch their expensive wheels and toys

And live simply along with the rest of us…
