A social site for poets in Sydney.
ALL WELCOME as the sydneypoetry.com bookclub convenes at 7pm on Monday 25 October upstairs at Madam Fling Flongs (aka Soni's – 169 King St, Newtown) to discuss Jennifer Maiden's Pirate Rain.
(Sometimes there are private functions on upstairs, so if we're not up there, we'll be perched in the front bar downstairs.)
What you need to do between now and then: read the book, develop an opinion.
ABOUT PIRATE RAIN
ISBN 978 1 920882 59 4
Publication April 2010
Pirate Rain builds on the highly acclaimed George Jeffreys poems, exploring themes of power, violence, politics and love across Paris, Baghdad, New York and the waters of the Gulf.
The poems discuss the US Presidential campaign, the War on Terror, economic crises and celebrity meltdowns on the one hand, and intensely personal themes of anger, privacy, family, art and love on the other, bringing each into sharp and often biting relief against the other.
Pirate Rain is a vigorous, rich and witty collection, from one of the most individual voices of contemporary Australian poetry.
Order at Giramondo or try your local bookshop.
This title was suggested by Tricia Dearborn.
