My Longing Ear & Untold Notes

I

Wondering alone,

beneath the gritty railway bridge,

My eyes, and ears, and soul, fell upon a raven man with molten heart,

blowing his golden soul with golden pipe,

for generous golden dollars,

thrown from the hands of spellbound strangers who did not stop,

he gazed into my longing ear with flaming night eyes,

as his blissful blue incantations settled all around,

a soulful midnight jazz floating with the distant grind of coal tranes,

II

Then, I wonder…

How many more golden blue souls are there that are not blowing?

How many are not bearing their street-side soul of innocence and tragedies?

All round me must be unheard notes that stink of bourbon and life,

All round me must be untold beaming beauty,

All round me must be blooming melancholy,

All round me must be unshaded hues of blue gold,

lush green souls and delicate yellow,

All round me must be passion red, hatred red, love red, bleeding red, blushing red!

All round me must be the notes of florid mistaken happiness, of lurid cardinal sins,

All round me must be the notes of brown earth smiles sustained despite, because of, life's unending vicissitudes,

All round me must be places most have only dreamed of and dared not to find,

even if only in conscious mind,

All round me must be notes of have-all have-nothings, of have-nothing have-alls,

in gracious malls spewing satisfaction for one two thousand and fortieth of a lifetime,

All round me must be idols in the limelight,

and idols in the twilight slamming down the fair brunette,

All round me are gray-green sages whose leafy words, in billions of dusty under-bed books, are stewed and used in faulty medicine.

All round me must be things I have yet to even comprehend into existence,

What a place! What a world of raven men, and molten hearts, and golden souls!
