Okay folks, what are some of your favourite lines from Australian poems? Here's one of mine, from Kenneth Slessor's 'City Nightfall': 'And there is only the quiet noise of planets feeding'. What an imagination KS had. Love it. LJ, May 13.

Great stuff from Henry, Catherine. Hopefully, we now see ourselves in Days of Gold. Thanks for your reply... Corey, I love Aidan's work. 'Avenues and Runways' is one of the Australian collections I most admire. He does economy and imagery so well. I adore 'Airship' in that volume - astoundingly imaginative. Have you read 'Asymmetry', the book he put together after having a stroke? Not as inventive as 'Avenues...' I reckon, but still strong, memorable. Thanks for your reply, LJ.

I love 'The Bee Hut' by DP, Corey. Again, a woman with a mastery of economy. Catherine, without the greats, there'd be very, very little interest in poetry in this country. Have a good weekend one and all, LJ.

These lines from Gwen Harwood's Prize Giving have always stayed with me:

Eisenbart teased his gown while others clapped,

and peered into a trophy which suspended

his image upside down: a sage fool trapped

by music in a copper net of hair.
