Australian Poetry Needs a 2011 Poet in Residence

If I were a Poet in Residence I would relocate the family to Ettalong Caravan Park and write fetching odes with narrative and local colour – the surfers, the fishermen, the bowlers, the septic...

Well, ok that's me.

What about you... Sure your digs are pretty champ. How about those poems you write... awesome, right! Imagine now the champer and awesomer life you would be leading if you were also Australian Poetry's 2011 Poet in Residence. The good part is you wouldn't have to move.

Big-hearted Australian Poetry (no website as yet) with deep-pocketed support from the Pratt Foundation is stumping up $20,000 for a selected poet to write poems in their home city, wherever they happen to live in Australia, from March 1st until October 31st, 2011.

The poet will spend time writing poetry, reading publicly, attending events, contributing to publications and working with Australian Poetry, and relevant associated organizations, to be an ambassador for poetry, drinking wine, being convivial, dancing, and promoting their own work, Australian Poetry and the art form. (So, uh, we added a few things to the list, for fun, to mix it up).

How do you get on this train?

All applicants must have published at least one collection by a reputable publishing house, must have a plan for the residency and two referees (all sporting codes acceptable).

For more details including practical, actionable information contact Australian Poetry at admin@australianpoetrycentre.org.au (or call the office on (03) 9094 7826)

Deadline: 5pm Friday December 3rd, 2010

Good luck team.
