Streets of Slurry Hills

The swills, the fools, the dregs,

the cools, the fashionista

steppin' over pools

of nameless fluids.

Cafe types who Facebook and Skype

using phones smarter

than you or I.

Old queens and queers,

old duckies and dears

gossiping on the corners.

The actors, the models, the dancers

all taking their chances

on fortune and fame

while biding their time behind the bar.

The wheelers checking their stocks,

the dealers doing their drops

while watching for cops.

Doctor shoppers shopping,

junkies and pillheads dropping,

Largatal shuffle for the Caritas crew.

Dog owners scooping up poo,

feral cats and cockatoos,

boot camp boffins charging

up the park,

pasty-faced vamps only seen

after dark.

A rat race, a rat run,

the streets of Slurry Hills.
