Event Description

Vagabond Press is raucously tubthumping about the launch of new titles by Luke Davies and Kate Lilley. Come along to see:

Luke Davies's 'The Feral Aphorisms' launched by Robert Adamson

Kate Lilley's 'Round Vienna' launched by Anna Gibbs
...
Critically acclaimed poet, novelist, essayist and screen-writer, Luke Davies is best known for his regular essays on film in the Monthly, his first novel 'Candy' and his breakout best-selling collection of poetry 'Totem'. Ten years ago almost to the day of the upcoming launch, Davies also published the limited-edition and much less well-known collection 'The Entire History of Architecture and other poems' with Vagabond Press, which sold out almost immediately. In March 2011, we're happy to have him back, not least as 'The Feral Aphorisms' welcomes the reader into the engine room of Davies' verse. Forget about Ritsos and Porchia for a moment. Adroit, acute and ludic, 'The Feral Aphorisms' offers a particle map of contemporary being cast into the multiple immediate of language.

Kate Lilley's first collection 'Versary' was published by Salt in 2002. John Tranter commented, 'What Kate Lilley gives us is the richness and vigour of the English Renaissance in the service of a complex set of postmodern concerns; scholarship as a handmaiden to art; and literature galvanised by passion. What we get is an alert, sharp-edged contemporary poetry, electric with allusion and irony, compulsively readable.' Her second full-length collection is due out later in 2011 from Salt Publishing but in the meantime Vagabond Press is thrilled to have the chance to bring out 'Round Vienna', a limited-edition illustrated chapbook of new poems in which Lilley takes the reader on a leisured stroll along the bifurcations and aporias of psychoanalysis with the erudition and perfect pitch that makes her work endlessly re-readable and equally pleasurable.

Both books are limited to 100 signed and numbered copies. Get'em quick and help us pay our printers.
