Most people think that O Week and Graduation are the biggest events to ever occur at UTS. They're wrong.
On the 12th of November, UTS will be taken over by Wordstock: one night of peace, love, music and the spoken word. Forget goon, pills and perving on engineering students- it's time to discover the more fulfilling high of the literary showcase. Punters from last year's inaugural extravaganza have this to say:
"I deliberately fai...led the final semester of my degree just so I'd be eligible to perform again this year."
-Wayne Kerr, writer of dodgy breakup poetry.
"Well, you say it was good, yeah? I dunno, I got pretty pissed with Sarah Attfield at the pub afterwards and I don't remember much."
-Anita Job, student judge of the evening.
"I do not condone excessive student drinking. Fun in general should be avoided for students as it disrupts my pedagogical techniques."
-Sarah Attfield, UTS tutor and surrogate mother of Wordstock.
FOR WRITERS AND PERFORMERS
-Wordstock is a showcase and competition for the spoken word.
-If you're a Communication student, Wordstock wants you!
-Perform your own work- be it poetry, prose, non-fiction, standup/comedy, songs, drama pieces, monologues, or anything else you think you can get away with.
-Pieces should be no more than 5mins long.
-If you can't perform your own piece (due to a medical problem or mafia threats, etc), get a friend to perform it for you.
-There are (real) cash prizes.
-To enter, contact Sarah in person or at sarah.attfield@uts.edu.au.
FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE FUN
-Wordstock is an end-of-semester event that is bigger than the tower building itself...
-Come to support your fellow struggling artistes and plan your entry for next year.
-Free food and drinks will be there. Enough said.
Entry to the event (both as a performer and a non-performer) is free. Totes check out our Twitter page for proof of Wordstock's inherent epicness...
