In this new Festival series, Sydney Stories, we invite you to join us for an intimate, informal pre-theatre experience in celebration of the city we share. Relax with a drink and let some very different Sydneysiders tell you a story in words and images about the piece of Sydney they know best.
Warren Fahey AM is a cultural historian, author, record producer, broadcaster and singer. Having written 16 books on Australian folklore, this Potts Point resident will take his audience on a waltz through the history of Postcode 2011 - sharing stories, ditties, songs and rare archival photographs and film clips relating to this fascinating precinct.
In 2011 it seems fitting to reflect on Postcode 2011 which represents a large chunk of Sydney's history and heart - taking in Woolloomooloo, Potts Point, Kings Cross, HMAS Kuttabul, Elizabeth Bay and Rushcutters Bay.
Among other stories, Fahey will touch on the controversy in 1906, when ‘dual' bathing for men and women was advertised at the Rushcutters Bay swimming pools; the murders, mayhem and heady excesses of the rich and infamous in Kings Cross and Potts Points and; the notorious ‘Sydney Stadium' - home to boxing, roller derby and wrestling.
