Event Description

 We are pleased to announce that our guest poet for  the May reading will be Rhyll McMaster this will be followed by the open mic Poetry comp.

Come and have some fun, read or just listen -- all poetry is good for the soul. Hope to see you there!

To read your work in the open mic comp., just turn up on the night and put your name on the list. It must be your own work and is time limited to 2mins so we can fit everyone in.

The wine and tapas bar will be open so you can have a meal and glass of wine while you're there if you fancy it. The Soup season at Sappho has started so there will always be a hearty hot homemade soup available.
 Starts at 7.00 pm in the garden at Sappho's wine and Tapas bar. Great food, great poetry! Look forward to seeing you all there.

 

Rhyll McMaster

Rhyll McMaster has six poetry books to her credit. Among her awards are the C.J. Dennis Prize and the Grace Leven Prize. Her poems have been broadcast on national radio and television. She has staged her poetry in a performance piece with a singer and a four-piece band at Tilleys, and her radio play, On My Empty Feet, was broadcast twice on the ABC. Her next book of poetry, Late Night Shopping, will be published in 2012.

She has been poetry editor of The Canberra Times, a freelance editor, a chairperson and judge of literary awards and fellowships, a film scripts and manuscripts assessor, and a books reviewer for major newspapers and literary magazines.

Her first novel, Feather Man was published in Australia in 2007 by Brandl & Schlesinger. It won two major awards and was shortlisted for two others. Feather Man was published in the UK, USA and Canada in 2008 by Marion Boyars, and is published in Mandarin in 2011 by the Anhui Literature & Art Publishing House. She is currently working on her next novel, Oceania, under an Australia Council Literature Grant.  www.rhyllmcmaster.com
