Back to its usual second Tuesday of month, our August Poetry Night will be held on Tuesday the 9th of August with readings by the two talented Australian poets David Musgrave and Eileen Chong.

This will be followed by the very popular open mic. readings. No booking necessary, just turn up and write your name down (max. 2 mins each.)

The 2011 poetry series is hosted by Amanda Moriarty and Sydney Poet Toby Fitch.

DAVID MUSGRAVE
David Musgrave was born in Sydney, 1965. He was awarded his PhD in 1997 at Sydney Univerity. His poetry has been appearing in print since 1985 and he is the author of four books of poetry, To Thalia (2004), On Reflection (2005), Phantom Limb (2010), and Concrete Tuesday (forthcoming 2011). His work has won or been shortlisted for several awards, including the Henry Lawson, Broadway, Bruce Dawe, Josephine Ulrick, Newcastle, Alec Bolton, and Grace Leven Poetry Prizes. He has also published a novel, Glissando: A Melodrama (2010), which was a finalist for numerous awards including the Prime Minister's Literary Award. His work as a critic includes publications on Samuel Beckett, David Ireland, the Ern Malley Hoax, depression and Norman Lindsay's The Magic Pudding. He was formerly the CIO of a Health Insurance Company. He explains his failure in the corporate world as being entirely due to his deep knowledge of menippean satire. He is now founder and director of the poetry press Puncher & Wattman.

EILEEN CHONG
Eileen Chong is a Sydney poet. Her poems have appeared in journals such as Meanjin, Overland, HEAT, Island and the Australian Book Review, as well as in The Best Australian Poems 2010. Eileen is an Australian Poetry Fellow for 2011. Her chapbook will be published by Australian Poetry in November 2011. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Creative Arts at the University of Western Sydney.

As usual the Wine and Tapas bar will be serving up hot soup, tapas, and a fine selection of wines.

July's reading was extra special and they just keep getting better. Make sure not to miss out! Starts at 7pm in the Sappho courtyard. Entry is free.
