ACDN are searching for a poet to lyrically map Auburn's social and cultural life over five months. It's a paid (and inspired) position. Interested? Read on and give it a red hot go.

Auburn Community Development Network (ACDN) is seeking expressions of interest from poets and writers for the position of Poet Laureate of Auburn.

The Laureate will visit schools, businesses, community agencies, and iconic Auburn monuments and spaces to develop a body of new work that speaks to the cultural and linguistic diversity of Auburn communities.

The Laureate will work closely with ACDN's existing projects and initiatives to create a program of monthly events with the aim of building new audiences and fostering a love of poetry and writing.

Key to the Laureate's work will be to engage young people, who have low levels of language and literacy, to develop creative expression-- setting the ground for a new generation of multilingual poets and writers.

This residency is expected to run from July to December 2011, inclusive of planning and evaluation stages.

The successful applicant will be expected to commit an average of seven hours per week for a period of five months as part of this residency.

The Poet Laureate of Auburn position will be selected using the following criteria:

1. Recognition as a poet, with a body of performed and/or published work

2. Capacity to interact with and engage diverse audiences, communities and groups

3. Experience in community-based creative contexts or settings

4. Cross-cultural communication skills

5. An understanding of Auburn communities.

This position is subject to a Working with Children Check.
