Event Description

What happens when you bring together four of Sydney's best female performance artists and poets, tell them to create brand new work, give them a musician to play with and have it all documented by live artist Sketchy Fran? Well, you'll have to come to the Red Rattler on the 16th of March to find out!

Edwina Blush, Candy Royalle, Jade Oldfield and Angela Stretch join forces to celebrate and explore this years International Women's Day theme: 'Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures'. It will be an intense and confronting yet celebratory and humurous show case of what it is to be a woman in this day and age.

PERFORMER BIO'S:

Edwina Blush: With a career spanning three decades Edwina's credits are as varied as they are numerous featuring on the programs of arts, writers’ and music festivals across the globe from Sydney Mardi Gras to the Venice Biennale. Beloved by cabaret, jazz, conceptual art and poetry fans alike Edwina Blush is a hybrid artist in the true sense. Sexy, sassy, well informed and wickedly irreverent Blush touches the mind, body and spirit with her insightful lyrics, sparkling wit and emotional nuance.

Candy Royalle: Candy Royalle is a multi-disciplinary poet and artist who combines powerfully-crafted stories with theatrics, vocal harmonies and a can’t-look-away charisma. She tackles topics ranging from sexual obsession to social injustice, often using seductive force to take her audiences into the darker areas of the human psyche. Few who see her can forget her intensity, her combustible blend of intellect, imagination and heart. She has performed her work both nationally and internationally from the Sydney Writers Festival to festivals in the UK and Spain. She has been profiled and appeared in press including the SMH, News Ltd and CNN.

Jade Oldfield: For the past 4 years Jade Oldfield has been busy "cutting her teeth" amongst the international slam community. She's performed at New York's infamous Nuyorican poets cafe, numerous U.K Summer festivals and represented Bristol in the 2010 National Slam titles. Jade Oldfield is the MC of Sydney’s monthly poetry slam event Caravan Slam. A grass roots poetry slam, providing a platform for the slam curious and slam veterans.

Angela Stretch is a media poet whose work extends to visual art that explores poetry and text with audio-visual technologies. Her work has been published and exhibited nationally. She was a finalist in the Marrickville Art Prize 2011 and awarded highly recommended at the Marrickville Art Prize 2009. She was awarded winner and people’s choice prize for Amnesty International’s Freedom Art Competition 2008. Her video poems have featured in Ribbons of Cursive Razors of Font, Australian Council for Arts, 2011, the Australian Poetry Festival 2008 & 2010; Sydney Writers Festival 2010, Federation Square, Melbourne, Overload Festival 2009. She is the coordinator of the Brett Whiteley Studio poetry readings and is producer and presenter of Talking Through Your Arts, 2SER-FM. She is currently a Cafe Poet in residence as part of The Australian Poetry Ltd program at the Corridor, Newtown.
