My Blood’s Country – An intensely personal exploration and celebration of the life and work of one of Australia’s premier poets, Judith Wright, through the natural landscape she loved so much.
Fiona Capp first met Judith Wright when she visited Fiona’s school. From that early meeting, Wright’s poetry became a continuous source of inspiration for Fiona in her own writing, and led to a long correspondence between the two that only ended when Wright passed away in the year 2000.
In this compelling memoir, Fiona embarks on a quest to discover more about Judith Wright and the country and people that inspired her. Fiona travels the landscapes and properties that are central to Wright’s poetry and life.
Fiona Capp was born in Melbourne in 1963. She trained as a journalist, has a PhD in English and has worked as a freelance writer and university tutor in English, journalism and novel writing. She is the internationally published author of two works of non-fiction – Writers Defiled and That Oceanic Feeling, a memoir about her love for the sea and surfing which won the Australians Studying Abroad Travel Writing Prize and the Nita B Kibble Literary Award for women writers – plus three novels – Night Surfing, Last of the Sane Days and Musk & Byrne.
Fiona is in conversation with Kate Lilley.
