Event Description

A surprise package of poets appear in the first public screening of the “WordinHand Pilot” Tuesday evening November 30th during the “Harold’s Shorts - Short Film Festival” at the Harold Park Hotel in Glebe

The heart of any culture lies in the stories that emerge from the people. This oral tradition is alive and well in the upper room of The Friend in Hand hotel in Sydney's Inner West where poets and punters have been gathering since last century. “WordinHand Pilot” is a pilot production that aims to bring these poets into the light.

About the project: “We filmed the evening in May with 3 cameras, interviewed some of the poets in August, and now have a 25-minute pilot ready for TVS. While we are arranging with them for a showing, the nice folks at “Harolds Shorts – Film Festival” have agreed to give our film its first public airing.

The people in the film represent a wide variety of life experiences. There is humour, anger, disillusionment, whimsy and joy. Each one is infused with sincerity and authenticity. Participants travel from all over Sydney and beyond to join us each month” - Jack Peck, WORDinHAND Convenor

“These stories and poems from the people need a wider audience. That’s why I hope that this little pilot will lead to more filming of the oral tradition and help create a rich resource for the future.” - John Lagerlow, the film’s Producer.
