Event Description

From Angela Stretch

I am pleased to be able to invite you to celebrate 150 poets who have featured at the Brett Whiteley Studio.

We are in our twelfth year since Brook Emery and Alec George, Coordinator of Brett Whiteley Studio, NSW Art Gallery first started the readings.  It was in February 1999 Deb Westbury appeared as the first invited poet to present at the Sunday Readings in Surry Hills.  Since its inception the monthly readings have featured 150 poets. In May we will celebrate 150 poets featured at Brett Whiteley Studio.

This event is an initiative to reacquaint Sydney poets to the cultural significance of these readings and to celebrate Australian poetry.  It is also an opportunity to invite potential sponsors and reinvigorate the poetry readings at the Brett Whiteley Studio.

Invited guest readers include, Cathy Bray, John Carey, Brook Emery, Carol Jenkins, and Norm Neill.  There are more poets yet TBA.

There is also an opportunity for you to read in the open mic.  It would be wonderful to have you attend and share your poetry in celebration of 150 poets!
