i joined the brickwork
gaunt misery contorted
and taut under my papery skin-meat
i looked up and the blue sky was blocked
by a clawed and furry blackness
half the body limp and hanging like lawlessness
the other wretched and strong and hanging
to the wires that scream and lie
and enmesh this cancerous web
its wings were of leather
and twisted around
like a broken Dracula
or a failed empathy in a gut
that frozen face hanging south
more a negative space
than a thing
the scattered chew-marks
the light streaming through
maggotty wings
these are among the things
that break me
as i wake up
