In addition to the annual anthology, the HWC and Puncher and Wattmann will publish a 30-year collection, including all the winning poems since 1981. The Newcastle Poetry Prize has always been highly regarded for its annual anthology, which offers established and emerging poets an opportunity for publication. The 30-year anthology will encompass a broad spectrum of Australian poets at various stages of their career: a remarkable body of work that will showcase the growth and diversity of Australian poets over time.
The announcement of the 2011 Newcastle Poetry Prize winners, and the launch of the two anthologies will take place in Newcastle over the October long weekend. This coincides with two other literary events in Newcastle: Australian Poetry’s National Poetry Symposium and the National Young Writers’ Festival so be sure to book accommodation early if you would like to attend.
