Thanks for your message, and for uploading the Home & Away USyd video Adrian.
I appreciate it.
You did a great reading at UTS - is that on Sydney Poetry now too?

Adrian, I just noticed that the PIFF conditions have this:

6. By submitting the poem the poet automatically hands over the copyright to PIFF without any further consideration, obligation or compensation.

Ew.

Sounded good up to then. I don't know what the exact legal implications are for 'hand over' - but it sounds like 'assign' which is a bit scary. Do you know???

Great to see Sydney Poetry thriving btw.

best

Hello... just wondering if this group is only for Sydney and surrounding areas.... and do I lose rights to my poetry once it's posted here...'poet automatically hands over the copyright to PIFF without any further consideration, obligation or compensation.'

...if either of these are true then my excitement at finding an online Australian poetry site has been nipped in the bud...

confused... Sharonlee

G'day Adrian, how are you?

My name is Cj Shaw and I run a monthly folk night in Erskineville at the HIVE BAR called Shut the Folk UP! The night runs between 8 and 10.30 roughly and we usually get four musicians and two poets.

I would love for you to recite for us at our first yearly meeting this month on Thursday the 31st. The sets are 10 minutes per poet.  There is no payment for performing although there is a beer and a feed on offer.

If you are keen my email address is tunesinbloom@gmail.com

thanks mate

Hi, my name is Bridget Cameron and come from the Sydney environs of Adelaide.

My interest in poetry began when I was 13, when we studied poetry at school. Coming from a large noisy family, I often escaped down to the creek and wrote for hours on end.

I had my first poem, "From the blue whale to an ameoba we are all one" published in a US journal when I was 14. This spurred me on to write more. I have had numerous poems published in Rhythm Earth US, have self published 4 books of poetry, been published in Positive Words creative writing journal(Victoria) several times and have been performance poet for years.

I have performed at the Inaugural Fleurieau Winter Poetry Festival, was the first poet to have an event, The Seventeenth Idea-which included original poetry, dance, music and slide projections- at the Victor Harbour Folk Festival. Other events include performances at the CJ Dennis Festivals, at the Rhythm of Life Festival, as a group, The Lounge Poets, in which we were filmed for SCAT TV, at the La Mama Theatre and opening exhibitions such as the Great Manifestations exhibition- for Stanley Street Art Students- participated in local Smash Poetry competitions and more.

I have been guest poet on 5UV Adelaide University radio, on 5RPH, 5DN and on FMJJJ, and have taught poetry to children and adults at cafes and at schools.

I have written another 2 books of poetry and am considering going into epublishing.

I love to read, am a real bookworm. Sylvia Plath and Rossini were my poetic muses in my youth.I love the more supernatural elements in writing saturated with the realistic and comedic. I have a personal library of over 4000 books and borrow regularly form a number of different libraries.

I wish more people loved poetry so that more poets (not just those with PHD's)could be published.

cheers, Bridget

hi adrian, thanks for the nice welcome, i love the feel of the site- warm and positive. joined up because I was interested in seeing what was going on in terms of readings and open mic stuff in and around town, have already found a few events listed so that's great...have included the guerillapoetics link because I love the concept and others might too.also have a love of black texta and random poetic fragments in odd places because better poetic anytime than prosaic all the time. hope to see you round!

Hi Adrian

Thanks for the greetings.  I too love Alexa's poetry.  I shall fill in my details when I have finished glossing doors - a job never to be done unless you are the absolute poor and can't afford to get someone skilled in.

Hi Adrian

Thanks very much for the very warm welcome!  Looking forward to becoming a more pro-active member of my new poetic Sydney community, and maybe even checking out some local readings and/or expansive musings.

Have recently crossed the ditch from NZ and bring with me lots of enthusiasm for melding the natural with . . . well, the wooly.  Seriously though, just keen to dive back into the lost but sacred world of poet's neglect.

Once again, Adrian, Thank You for your welcome, and advice.

As I said, it was love at first sight!

I took a look, explored a little, and was hooked.

Words flew at me from my laptop screen,

And wrapped me up in a blanket of warm verse.

Ciao.

Hi Adrian,

I just wished to say, a sincere thank you to you, for allowing me to join up to your community.  Especially as I am an ex communitarian (non Sydney resident).  I feel very lucky.  And, as I said before, I am delighted to find such a wide range of talent, and I am enjoying very much learning about the poets and poetics of Sydney. Thank You so much. Sincerely. Flamina.

Greetings Adrian,

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I have been getting overswept up in my life, and am seeking to restablish myself via the creative channel and outlet of poetry. Forgive me if I seem a bit dizzy and get it wrong at first. I travel around the world doing this work, and have enjoyed it only because I have not used limitation of any kind as a standard for creating what should be without limit and within your ability to create. My basic "keep it real" policy and searing policy of truth either wins me enemies or wins me fans of my work, depending on the subject matter of the poetry in question. The only way I have prospered and thrived creatively is the underground. But I guess I dont need to say any more on this, and let my posted work speak for itself.

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for letting me in the group.

You could say that I have had a long distance relationship poetry, singing and songwriting for many years.  It is only recently that i have truly welcomed it into my life on a daily basis and I am relishing the passion which it brings with it.

Nice to be a part of it. Rich
