Tuesday Poems: Apologising To Unicorns

First an apology for the unicorn. Do not be alarmed. You have not inadvertently arrived at a site devoted to unicorns. This is a site for poetry, and this is a post about a post on a poem for a unicorn. Confused? Neither are we! And there is no cause for concern.

Now on with apologising to unicorns.

You may recall the Weekly Links last Friday had a note on Jennifer Compton's Tuesday poems project.

The basic idea is that you write a blog post each Tuesday about a poem that interests you. Last week for Jennifer was Yevgeny Yevtushenko. This week she has posted on Peter Boyle's poem 'Apologising To Unicorns' (in recognition of which a unicorn is attached).

Apologising to unicorns is problematic. They rarely understand our purposes. Tenderness will often be seen as the manipulative gestures of a fear that seeks death – for itself and others.

Peter Boyle is a serious poet, but here he enjoys the poetic possibilities of this most unlikely of poetic subjects.  Read the full post.

Have a go

It'd be great to see some Tuesday poem posts from members here on sydneypoetry.com. Let us know about the poems you're interested in with a blog post and a few comments.

One other thing... please do not feel encouraged to share your poems about unicorns. That is all.
