Jacko likes to make believe, that he is no ordinary mouse,

It’s all about the proper breeding he says, as he struts around the old house,

He claims an aristocratic bloodline that can be traced back to the king

The other mice that live in the manor are all descendants of him.

Jacko lives with his current family, in the corner of the old bedroom,

Between the heavy paneled walls, a life of luxury and safety is assured,

They dine on only the finest food and drinks that can be stolen late at night

As the humans sleep tucked up in bed, after all it is their Royal rights,

There is only one real danger, besides the odd old human mouse trap,

She is always trying to catch them, ‘Oh’ that sneaky Jessie cat,

Often they have seen her big green eyes, staring into their mouse holes,

Or sensed her waiting just outside, for them to run across the floors.

She has taken members of his family down thru the years,

After all the times Jacko has warned them, they still manage to lose their fear,

Jessie cat has come very close to catching Jacko once or twice,

It’s a constant battle of the wits, between the house cat and the mice.

Then there is that silly dog, Jacko says, he has only half of a brain,

Whenever he picks up their scent, he can be really quite a pain,

Running up and down the stairs, and all along the halls,

He can hear them with his big floppy ears, as they move around between the walls.

Sometimes he can prove to be useful, but most of the time he is a prat,

He has come to their rescue in the past, when he chased after Jessie cat,

Jessie’s brilliant climbing skills, has always helped her to escape,

As the silly dog barks with frustration, she just looks down into his face.

Now it’s time to find some food, there is silence throughout the big house,

Down thru the walls we go, as we follow Jacko the clever mouse,

We sneak in between the broken bricks, behind the kitchen fire place,

All along the granite kitchen work tops, in silence now we race.

Then we arrive at the larder cupboard, it is the mousse Holy Grail,

Down thru the small hole at the top, for delicious treats it never fails,

Then Jacko suddenly stops and stares, as a tiny smile forms upon his face,

He quickly steps around the mouse trap that the humans have put in place.

Just then his small body goes ridged, as his keen nose sniffs the air,

Jessie cat has just climbed on top; there is no other way out of there,

We can hear the sound of footsteps approach, and someone opens the door,

We jump out into midair, and go tumbling across the kitchen floor.

Jessie cat jumps from the cupboard, and lands upon a chair,

She chases after us, as we run for our lives, towards the big old stairs,

We can feel her breath on our backs, as we approach the mouse hole,

She crashes head first into the wall, as thru the hole we go,

Our hearts are pounding in our chests, as we sit quivering with fright,

That was a close one, Jacko say’s, as we sneak off into the night.
