On The Road To Infinity

Just follow the signposts, on the road to infinity,

one by one they'll rise up to meet you.

In the beginning is Immaturity,

leading you on to Insecurity,

up the hill towards Enlightenment,

where you are trapped behind the

caravan of Disenchantment.

Waiting to overtake you ponder

the Imponderable on this freeway

to Immortality, conveniently

forgetting your bouts of Immorality.

You pull over to the hard…

A bull called Calvary

A bull called Calvary,

In the depths of winter Calvary seeks refuge underground

far from the howl sweeping the land’s frozen surface with the low battering void.

In earth

The dark labyrinth is warmer here than the cave mouth

and a different world

The two brothers Altamira and Pech Merle creep within the light of the fire stick that makes the path between knowing and that, which is not

their shadows move beyond the…

the lost boys

The Lost Boys

A nation celebrates the mourning it’s pressures and vacuums with khaki uniformity

tempering the horizon,

where no man is evident

beyond

a cellular perception exemplifying teamwork as the authority best qualified to evolve into culture.

And for those who don’t live the war

enjoy the dark rage of Easter’s ceremony, of the lost boys,…

ANOTHER POEM

DEGREEES

Over several family-size supremes

in Bundanoon's Italian spot,

tourists from Sydney whine about

the state of roads into town.

A Pakistani father and his boy,

eating bread scraps, calling to goats,

wander along what's left of a new road,

whilst being watched by a US drone.

Change

What was once you is no more

Your being changed from it's very core

clouded thoughts of all sorts

makes you easy to contort.

Reason fades replaced by the chase

of a solid state to hold your face.

Though if difference means to stop,

then hope remains untouched.

Pull it together man.

How do you expect to lend your hand

when you can hardly stand,

Words escape you now and then

but what use are…

A NEW POEM

FACT

The male Sydney Funnel Web

was the only thing

in this universe

that spooked

Darth Vader.

FOUR PLOTS FOR MAGNETS

I am stoked John Knight of Pitt Street Poetry is re-issuing Luke Davies' ultra-rare Four Plots For Magnets (from 1982) in April. Luke's lyric means a lot to me. Years ago, Luke offered me words of encouragement re my own poetry writing.

JCDBP

I just sent off 5 poems to the Jean Cecily Drake-Brockman Prize. The prize is $1000, a two week residency at Manning Clark House in Canberra and a residency in a castle in Ireland. What a well-considered prize. All hail the architects behind it. I'll cross my fingers, take a deep breath...

Man and woman

I would love to know how it all began,

When god made woman and god made man.

He moulded the two with his powers that be,

He made man with a penis and woman with a gee.

He gave man the will to provide and survive,

And woman to get everything she wants from the age of five.

He gave man the ability to drown out the noise,

Of a woman's complaints with "I'm going out with the boys"

He gave woman the ability to spend spend spend,

Especially with a credit… Continue

Found love again.

I've seen it all before,

You tell me that you love me and then you walk out the door.

Your the one that holds my heart,

It's been that way since the very start.

Now I'm a broken man with nowhere to go,

With a love so deep but ain't got nobody to show.

Why is it always me?

My life just seems to lead me down a one way street.

I look deep into my soul and think about them fish, swimming in that lonely fish bowl.

I hope I find that true love I lost, as… Continue

Glass half full.

Hey you over there?

You've probably noticed me, I'm the one that likes to stare.

My palms are sweaty legs like jelly don't think I could walk,

Over there to you and start to talk.

I don't even know what I would say,

I'm so nervous I'd probably stutter and just come out with hey.

You would look at me and think he is a handsome guy, but come over here and talk to me I wish you'd try.

The end of the night draws near and will I ever see you again I start to… Continue
