Hi Luke, and welcome to the Sydney Poetry social site.

This is a social site built by the poets (and friends) of Sydney (and surrounds) for the poets (and friends) of Sydney (and surrounds).

You can:
  • add poetry events, photos and videos to the site,
  • add your own poetry to the site in the Member's Poetry section (but just one a day please),
  • write blog posts, or start topics in the forum,
  • invite poets (and teachers, readers, writers, performers) you know to join,
  • comment on just about everything, or
  • just keep an eye on what's happening.

This being a social site the more we all do here the more interesting it becomes for everyone.

There's no membership fee and no middlewoman – there is though just a bit of moderation to keep it clean and on-topic.

So we all know a bit more about your interest in poetry it'd be great if you introduced yourself, what you write, what you read etc with a few words in a blog post or the editable text box on your profile page (and, if you're in the mood, add an image for your avatar).

Best wishes,
Adrian

Ciao Luke,

A book of poems on the cities of Italy! Wowza.

Wonders of our world! And an idea fantasticISSIMO

When will it be available? As a lover of everything

Italian, I am lusting to read it. Unfortunately I am in

Ireland so cannot attend your readings...but I

loved the poem 'Valintino Skeleton' and the others.

You have a great gift.

Hi Luke,

Wow!  So you must know Ireland well too.  I think that bar has in fact drowned in the current economic tides.  Yes. Of course we must meet when your on the Emerald Island again. Would be lovely. And Im really looking forward to seeing that book of yours on five Italian cities. Let me guess: Venice, Florence, Rome, (of course) and Torino (maybe), Napoli (?) Verona(?).......

Ciao Luke, I can understand you liking the 'language' play here on this Island...there is so much of it, and it is: fanfeckintaaastic ta be sure.  It is a fact of history that the Brits wiped out the speaking of Irish - and forced the Irish to talk with foreign tongue, but what a unique brand of English they came up with ... The Irish dance linguistic circles around the English now. I myself love the banter and the blarney.  The person you mention, Healy, was here before my time I think, if Im not mistaken he founded some poetry journal here in Dub.  I have no idea about his whereabouts - but if I happen to hear sure I'll let ya know.

I go to quite a few of the events by Poetry Ireland, and did have them following me on Twitter, that was until I closed down my Twitter account. I was pleased ta say the least!

However, I also like alot of the new poets that are around, that are not involved with Poetry Ireland, especially the Slam poets, who I find vibrant and entertaining.

I imagine that your book is themed in some way.  Is it perhaps directed at the influences that Italy has had on the global community? Or is it a wild and ravishing unreasonable romp.  Well- from my side, poetry on and about Italy is eternally desirable, as there is so much content to write about: art, history, language, food, fashion, beauty, the beat gos on.  It must have been great fun making it.  Do you have a publisher? Or is this a project your doing yourself? Well - I hope it happens soon! I look forward to reading your visual images of Firenze, Venetzia and the other cities....seriousy! And I wish you luck with it.

I spend mucho of my time in Italy - the last trip was to Venice a few months back - stayed in a pallazo on the Grande Canal!  Firenze is my darling tho.

Its great to have this banter, between the green island and the great outback. And a pleasure to read you. Ciao.

Hi Luke, I made quite a few errors without my contacts in yesterday. Apologies!1. What I meant to say was I am looking forward to reading your written images of Italia, when the book comes out. 2. I am Anglo Irish...so dont take my comments as being racial. They are not at all. Just playful observations. 3) Poetry Ireland are fantastic.  And have alot of events in the summer. So if you want to do readings when you are here. Contact them. If you need any help with it let me know. I can also help if you want to read at one of the cities art festivals, such as the Ranelagh Festival. They have excellent literary events. That happens in Aug/Sept.

You are obviously a very gifted poet, with a strong voice.  So possibly think about doing some readings when your here.

I will be travelling in Italy from now until the end of June. Please keep in touch from time to time, via this website, and let me know when you'll be in Ireland and I'll give you my contact details.

All the best from over here....F.

Ciao Luke

I do know of Iggy, and am familiar with his work (King of Suburbia etc). I was at a few of his readings. He is a high calibre poet that I enjoy. He is teaching physics at Trinity. If I were you I would contact him about reading in Dublin. Maybe you could do something with him.

I am leaving for Florence this evening.  Will be there for a while, then travelling in Italy, getting inspiration, visiting family etc.

Dublin has gone mad, with the queen and Barack both hitting town within days of each other. Lots of traffic disrputions etc., but it is worth it, at least in the queen's case.

I wont ask you anymore invasive questions about your book, and be patient, but I am absolutly curious to read your narratives, in particular on Florence and Venice.

I will send you my contact details anon.

Until soon.

Ciao.
