Poetry at Sappho

Posted on May 11, 2011 at 16:21 0 Comments

We loved the reading by Rhyll McMaster last night, she is an accomplished reader who has a very personal and welcoming style. Her poetry conveys the beauty and transcendence of the everyday. Thank you Rhyll, it was a  real privilege.

If you would like to hear more of her work, she will be reading on Saturday 14th at 3pm (Repeated on Thursday at 3pm) on ABC radio national's "Poetica"…

Thanks to David Brooks for his wonderful reading last Tuesday  at Sappho Books and the 100 or so people who came to hear him and helped make it such a fabulous evening.
Congratulations to Paul Giles who won the open section with his poem 'Sydney'!

Hi Sappho Books, and welcome to the Sydney Poetry social site.

This is a social site built by the poets (and friends) of Sydney (and surrounds) for the poets (and friends) of Sydney (and surrounds).

Thanks for adding your reading to the calendar section. Great to see this institution continues to find new life. One thing you could do in addition to adding the event is invite the membership of the site to come along.

So I've gotten a bit behind with the welcome notes but I hope you've already found your way around the site. Besides adding events here's the run-down of what you can do:
  • add poetry events, photos and videos to the site,
  • write blog posts, or start topics in the forum,
  • add your own poetry to the site in the Member's Poetry section,
  • invite poets (and teachers, readers, writers, performers) you know to join,
  • comment on just about everything, or
  • just keep an eye on what's happening.
This being a social site the more we all do here the more interesting it becomes for everyone.

There's no membership fee and no middlewoman – there is though just a bit of moderation to keep it clean and on-topic.

Best wishes,
Adrian
