Poodles and puddles

What do poodles and puddles have in common?

Well they are very much the same

Because poodle is the German name

For a puddle

And this little muddle

Is caused because a pudel

Is a shorter way around

Pudelhund

Which is German for puddle dog

But don’t let that befuddle

Because it refers to

A hunter of puddle duck

And other water birds

In a German quag

That it became

A silly-looking dog

More like a cuddlehound

Than a puddlehound

In Parisian parlours

Eating strudel

Rather than in a German bog

Eating puddleducks

Is very much a shame.
