When I visit Florence I always start my walk at the Piazza della Santissima,

I visit the Ospedale degli Innocenti, with it's sweet della Robbia medalions, I'd stop to adore Gherlandaio, the Church of the Santissima and the old Servite Convent;  then around to the Accademia, where Michaelangelesque figures emerge from puffy Cararra cloud and David looms, symbolising the perfection of the male form.

When humankind supposedly 'grew up', and came into its own, during the Renaissance, and looked to ancient Greek culture to found the city, it was one of their greatest achievements.

But where has hu(man)kind has brought us?

They are well into the process of destroying the blue planet,  and feebly trying to undo the damage. Still thoughtlessly fucking clouds, pissing in the oceans, spewing into the atmosphere. And still unwilling to take the steps necessary to turn it all around. If it is not too late.

So many of them do not even see the beauty around them, blinded in their testosterone fulled persuits

In the race for total domination of all that exists, they have forgotten that life on earth is a gift.

And it is the male of the species that is the 'inventor' of everything that is destroying the planet. They have forgotten that life is,

Something  precious

To be cherished

What will it take for them to learn from their past mistakes?

A Renaissance?

A Revolution?

A Revelation?

From the Accademia I would walk back over to their Piazza of Perfection and listen to their church bell toll, over the square, as dusk gave way to darkness, and I would think to myself, how young humankind is, and how many mistakes they have made,  although their Renaissance was a monumental landmark in their evolution, it was only the beginning of their teen age.

An age which is rapidly approaching its end.

Their planet will go on, it will continue, if they become wise, and do not destroy themselves.

I have seen planets explode into existance, and burn themselves out, blow themselves up, cultures rise, and fall,  I was there at the beginning, and I will be there at the end.   I will go on ad infinitum. Eternally igniting the night sky, shining the way, for all souls, who cannot see in the darkness.
