and the sun sets
over the ocean here
the cloudscape
reflects the fading red.
under the sky
the night takes time
becomes.
light and colour gone.
the wind's blown hot
over the desert all day
tho' still moves on the river
taking that which was day

to the ocean

East Coast Retort

tho' the sun rises

over the ocean (hear?)

the cloudclinch

focuses the eye-squinting whiteness.

above the waves

the night takes leave

retreats.

light and colour emerge.

the wind not yet unfurled her flag

across the stubborn plain

stillness heavy-weight on the river

forestalling that which was the night

afore the mountains

Absolutely beautiful! I'm reading your anthology tonight. Hooray!
