Ember Flame

Ember Flame is a performance poet who uses witty, lyrical narratives to send up the peculiarities of modern life, as well as her own tightly-packed anxieties. She often tells her stories through different characters, from the whistle-blowing fairytale princess to the office girl who longs to give in to her jungle rhythms. Part commentary, part confession, these urban ballads offer hope for transformation with healthy helpings of sexual innuendo. Ember usually fuses her poetry into a burlesque performance, appearing regularly at various burlesque nights around Sydney. Her words stand alone, but draw on many staples of the burlesque tradition. This is poetry designed to strip away the layers, expose secrets and poke fun at social conventions.

This is Sydney’s premier regular and enduring poetry / spoken word event, providing open mike opportunities for voices directly from the Sydney community plus a high-energy poetry slam every month in addition to a featured poet or two.

First Tuesdays except January, 7:30 for 8:00 PM. Donation $10/$5. Slam Prize $50.
