Event Description

Following a captivating evening of poetry and architectural music Wordjammin' and Australia Poetry Ltd are pleased to present the second and final Tuning in the World for 2011.

As part of Sydney Fringe in September Canadian wordsmith Shane Koyczan, American Scottish poet in residence Ryan Van Winkle and up and coming Sydney poet Jesse Willisee gave voice to their words to improvised music by bassist Phil Stack and guitarist Carl Dewhurst. Next Wednesday is set to be another special evening of poetry and improvised music featuring established Sydney poet John Carey. Carey has performed Australia's much loved modernist poet Kenneth Slessor's work in Darlinghurst Nights and City Nightfall at the Sydney Writers Festival and Sydney Fringe 2010. His poetry is widely published in various state, national and international journals, literary magazines and poetry collections. Gareth Jenkins is no stranger to performing his poetry in experimental, collaborative ways. Jenkins has performed with classical ensembles, sound artists and media artists in live exhibited installations in varying on site and off site locations. The music will take on its own unique composition when for the first time on stage together will be the experienced musicianship of Trevor Brown on saxophone, Waiting for Guinness and Jonathan Swartz on Bass with Alex Masso on drums. The evening will be hosted by Angela Stretch media poet and presenter of Talking Through Your Arts, 2SER-FM.

This event has been made possible with the kind support of Marrickville Council.
