Dear friends,

you are invited to attend poetry this Sunday at Brett Whiteley Studio, 24 July 2012. 

This month we present an afternoon of poetry that takes in the launch of the second edition of the Australian Poetry flagship publication the Australian Poetry Journaland we are pleased to feature poet Laura Shore

Note: Due to the number of feature poets featuring at this month’s poetry reading there will be no open mic in June. 

Laura Shore has appeared in literary magazines in the US, Italy, New Zealand and Australia. In 1996, she immigrated to Australia from the US. Settling in the Byron shire, she initiated the Dangerously Poetic reading series and community press. Her collection, Breathworks, was launched at the 2002 Byron Writers Festival. In 2003, she was chosen for the Poet’s Union, "Poets on Wheels" program to tour Western NSW. She won the 2009 FAW John Shaw Nielson Award and the 2006 CJ Dennis “Open Poetry” Literary Award. Her latest book, Water over Stone, won IP Picks Best Poetry 2011 and is published by Interactive Press, Brisbane. She has been chosen for a KSP Emerging Writer’s Residency in WA for Aug-Sept 2012.

Sunday @ 2 is pleased to host the launch of the Australian Poetry Journal 2.1: Technology. Edited by Bronwyn Lea.  Launch address by APL Board Member Martin Langford.

John Carey is an ex-teacher of French and Latin and a former actor. He has published three poetry collections, including The Old Humanist (Puncher & Wattmann, 2008).

Margaret Bradstock has five published collections of poetry, including. The Pomelo Tree which won the Wesley Michel Wright Prize. Her sixth collection, Barnacle Rock, is forthcoming with Puncher & Wattmann in 2013. She is the editor of Antipodes, the first anthology of Aboriginal and white poetic responses to ‘settlement’.

Brook Emery has published three books of poetry, and dug my fingers in the sand, which won the Judith Wright Calanthe Prize, Misplaced Heart, and Uncommon Light. All three were shortlisted for the Kenneth Slessor Prize. A new collection, Collusion, will be released in 2012.

Kate Lilley is the author of Versary (Salt, 2002), which won the Grace Leven Prize, Round Vienna (Vagabond, 2011), and Ladylike (UWAP, 2012). She is Associate Professor of English at the University of Sydney and the poetry editor of Southerly.

Martin Langford is a poet, editor, essayist and critic. He is on the board of Australian Poetry, prior to which he served on the committee of the Poets Union Inc (NSW). Martin directed the Australian Poetry Festival three times, initiating the Australian Young Poets´ Fellowships and the Judith Wright Lectures.
