Event Description

Writers are invited to submit poems on the subject of the ‘Spirit of the Collection’, responding to artworks in Manly Art Gallery & Museum’s collection in what will be a unique event celebrating the spoken word. See http://leswicks.tripod.com/Manlycatalogue.pdf

Twenty poems will be chosen by event curator Les Wicks, poet/publisher/editor for live-reading by the authors who will each receive $50.

Submissions to be emailed to meusepress@hotmail.com by 5pm Friday 12 August 2016. (Writers will be notified by 26/8/16). Those submitting should advise in which suburb they live. To maximise diversity, poets selected for last year’s Manly event are ineligible to submit to this year’s.

The selected poets will perform their works on

Sunday 25 September 2016, 2.00pm-4.00pm

Manly Art Gallery & Museum, West Esplanade Reserve, Manly

At the reading, there will also be an open mic section.

This event is part of the Manly: Art from the Vault exhibition at Manly Art Gallery & Museum (9 September – 4 December 2016). An exhibition drawn from MAG&M’s extensive collection of paintings, photographs, works on paper and museum objects which reveal Manly in a new light and showcase the gallery’s recent key acquisitions. These range from Anne Zahalka’s recent photographic reinterpretation of Nancy Kilgour’s painting Figures on Manly Beach (c1930), works by Ethel Carrick Fox and A.H.Fullwood to drawings of Manly Cove by Tom Peerless (1885).

This project is part of the 2016 Manly Arts Festival.
