Event Description

NOTE: YOU MUST RSVP TO info@wordtravels.info
Shhh...Word Travels is launching a new Rocks Pop Up space. We're lucky enough to have Sarah Kay & Phil Kaye in town for an intimate gig. Why the "Shhh"? It's not really a performance space and we can't fit many people, but that makes it kinda special.

From amazing audiences on HBO's Def Poetry Jam to enlightening crowds at TED conferences, Sarah Kay has set an incredible track record for a young spoken-word artist. Sarah will be touring to Sydney with the equally inspiring US spoken-word star Phil Kaye.
Together they run Project V.O.I.C.E (www.project-voice.com).

Word Travels opens their season in The Rocks Pop-Up with this very special show. Space very limited. RSVP via the email below now. Pay at the door. Includes drinks and nibbles.

Tickets: $15 donation

SARAH KAY has been a professional Spoken Word Poet since age 14. In 2004, Sarah founded Project V.O.I.C.E. and has since taught Spoken Word Poetry in classrooms and workshops all over the world, to students of all ages. She has performed at such venues as the UNITED NATIONS, LINCOLN CENTER, and the Tribeca Film Festival. She was a featured poet on the the television show Russel Simmons presents HBO Def Poetry Jam, and the video of her talk at the 2011 TED conference (Technology, Entertainment, Design) on "The Rediscovery of Wonder" has been seen over a million times. Sarah's first book, B, was published in November, and was the #1 bestselling poetry book on Amazon.

PHIL KAYE has been a featured performer in the US NATIONAL POETRY SLAM, the Individual World Poetry Slam, and the College National Poetry Slam (where he was awarded for "Pushing the Art Forward"). Phil's first book, "A Lightbulb Symphony" was released in January of 2011 and his work can regularly be found in CHAOS Magazine. Phil was the Head Facilitator of the SPACE program in Rhode Island (Space in Prison for the Arts and Creative Expression) and led weekly Spoken Word Poetry workshops with Maximum Security Inmates.

Project V.O.I.C.E. (Vocal Outreach Into Creative Expression) is an organization based on three founding principles: Entertainment, Education, and Inspiration. Conceived in 2004, Project V.O.I.C.E. encourages young people to engage with the world around them and use Spoken Word Poetry as an instrument through which they can explore and better understand their culture, their society, and ultimately themselves. Project V.O.I.C.E. brings together performance, writing, and a supportive environment to inspire youth to recognize that their views are significant, valid, and necessary.
