Thursday 27^th October 2011. Being adventurous by nature and trusting to my talking satnav, tricked out to sound like Richard Burton, I braved the wilds of Western Sydney to attend the inaugural reading of newly appointed Auburn Poet Laureate, Sheryl Persson, held at the Auburn Library Gallery.

I am acquainted with some of the work of this poet so my expectations were appropriately high, hence the long, arduous and at times perilous journey.

The reading, content and presentation, was certainly worth the journey. One must congratulate the poet on her clear perception of local events and issues, creatively captured and skilfully communicated to an appreciative audience. I look forward to hearing much more from this perceptive poet.
