Event Description

Les Wicks - Over 40 years Wicks has performed at festivals, schools, prison etc. Published in over 350 different magazines, anthologies & newspapers across 24 countries in 12 languages. Conducts workshops around Australia & runs Meuse Press which focuses on poetry outreach projects like poetry on buses & poetry published on the surface of a river. His 13th book of poetry is Getting By Not Fitting In (Island, 2016).


Saba Vasefi is a poet, academic, filmmaker, Ambassador for the Asylum Seekers Centre, director of Sydney International Women's Poetry & Arts Festival and the recipient of an Edna Ryan Award for making a significant contribution to feminism. She was twice a judge for the Sedigheh Dolatabadi Book Prize for best literature on women's issues. Saba's master's thesis in Feminist Literary Criticism received the highest grade possible and at the age of twenty-four she became a lecturer at the prestigious Shahid Beheshti University in Iran. She was expelled from the university after four years of teaching due to her activist activities against capital punishment. She holds a postgraduate degree in Documentary at the Australian Film Television and Radio School.
