Event Description

This month at Sappho we have a special poetry reading event on the third Tuesday of the month, rather than the second Tuesday. The Poetry Night will return to the second Tuesday of every month, like usual, as of August. As well as that, we will be switching the format a little so that it includes TWO guest poets reading their works on the night.

We are especially honoured and excited to be having two guest poets for July's Poetry and Open Mic Night: Robert Adamson (Sydney,) and his US publisher Devin Johnston (US).

This will be followed by the very popular open mic. competition. No booking necessary, just turn up and write your name down (max. 2 mins each.)

The 2011 poetry series is hosted by Amanda Moriarty and Sydney Poet Toby Fitch.

Robert Adamson
Adamson is one of Australia's leading poets, and is a successful writer, editor and publisher. His books have been published in the UK and the USA and his poems have been translated into several languages. He has published fifteen volumes of poetry and has organised and produced poetry readings, delivered papers, lectures and readings at literary festivals throughout Australia and internationally. He has won several major Australian poetry awards, and his latest book, The Goldfinches of Baghdad won the Age Poetry Book of the Year in 2007.
