FRIDAY 26TH NOVEMBER



1. Opening Night: Fri 26th Nov – Opening Night (launch of Science Made Marvellous anthologies)

Time: 5.30pm – The Lockup.

Event: The Weekend kicks off with the opening of ‘In the Detail’ with wine, cheese, readings from the Science Made Marvellous Anthologies, an exhibition of the beautiful drawings, an announcement of the winners and an unveiling of the poems.

2. Opening Night: Fri 26th Nov – Opening Night (Talya Rubin performs her new poetry play)

Time: 7pm – The Lockup.

Event: Talya Rubin performs her new poetry play, ‘Of the Causes of Wonderful Things’.

Entry: Tickets $25.



Talya has toured with her original solo performance pieces, Ariadne’s Thread and The Girl With No Hands, to festivals in Adelaide, Melbourne, Montreal, Prague and Toronto. Both shows received five-star reviews, played to sold-out houses and were named one of the top ten plays in the Montreal Fringe. This is theatre and poetry at its best. Tickets $25

3. Saturday 27th November - Poetry Panel: What Poets do in Private

Time: 10am – 12 noon

Entry fee: Poetry panels $10 each


The creative process of three different poets. Why are they poets and who are they really? This panel would cover topics such as routine, methodology, and the craft of poetry.


4. Saturday 27th November - Poetry Panel: What Poets do in Public
Time: 1pm - 3pm

Entry fee: Afternoon poetry panels $10 each



Can you have a career as a poet? How has your career as a poet unfolded?
This panel would cover topics such as Publication, Competitions, Festivals and Readings, and Auxiliary activities.



5. Saturday 27th November - announcement of the winners of the Newcastle Poetry Prize

and the launch of the 2010 anthology

Time: 6pm – The Lockup exercise yard

Join us for the announcement of the winners of the Newcastle Poetry Prize and the launch of the 2010 anthology. 6pm – 8pm

Free entry : Refreshments provided.



6. . Saturday 27th November - Dinner at the Customs House

Time : 8pm.

Cost: dinner and drinks at your own expense.

Let’s keep the party going with a long table at the Customs House for dinner and drinks (own expense).

SUNDAY 28TH NOVEMBER



7. Sunday 28th November - Poets’ lunch and readings from the anthology

Time: 12 noon - 3pm

Venue : The Lockup,

Address: 90 Hunter St, Newcastle


Poets’ lunch and readings from the anthology. A relaxed lunch in our new shaded exercise yard. A chance to hear the shortlisted poets read their work, lounge around with a glass of wine and chat about the weekend past. Taxis to the airport from here.
