Event Description

Three legends of Australian poetry appearing together - this is a rare opportunity for Sydney audiences, and will be a wonderful evening of ironic humour, terrific poems and high spirit.

Gig Ryan
Gig Ryan has published several volumes of poetry and performed and recorded with the groups Disband and, currently, Driving Past. Her book Pure and Applied won the 1999 C. J. Dennis Prize for Poetry and her latest, Heroic Money, was shortlisted for the 2002 Kenneth Slessor Prize for Poetry.

She is currently the poetry editor for The Age newspaper.

joanne burns
Site member joanne burns poetry includes numerous prose poems, short fiction and monologues. Her first book of poetry, Snatch, was published in London in 1972. Since then she has published over a dozen other collections including on a clear day, aerial photography, footnotes of a hammock and an illustrated history of dairies in 2007. Joanne has been performing her work since the 1970s. She has been a teacher of English and creative writing. Her new collection amphora is forthcoming from Giramondo Publishing in 2010.

Alan Wearne
Alan Wearne has spent much of his poetry career chronicling the world of 20th Century urban Australia. These have resulted in 2 verse novels and a verse novella. In 2008 his sequence of sonnets and other 14-liners centred around popular Australian songs from the late 19th Century through to 1980 was published by Giramondo. His attitude to poetry both is that of an elitist and an entertainer.
