Event Description

Poets from across the country are pairing up with Australia’s weirdest and most wonderful clubs and societies throughout 2011 to create new works of poetry.

The Red Room Company has hand picked and commissioned two clubs and poets for the project’s Melbourne leg:

Ali Alizadeh has been chosen to work with the Existentialist Society at Bundoora.  Alizadeh’s latest book is Ashes in the Air (UQP, 2011) and he’s editor of the online journal, Cordite Poetry Review

Poet and rapper Omar Musa spends most of his time on the road performing and writing and has won numerous awards for poetry and music, including the Australian Poetry Slam in 2008.  He has paused his schedule to soar with the Melbourne Motorgliding Club.

Anybody who is a member of a club or society, or has ever wanted to be, can get involved in the project.  And anybody who writes poetry, or has ever wanted to, can become a club poet.  Come along to the MWF to hear about Alizadeh and Musa's experiences with their clubs, and to listen to the works that resulted.
