Remembering is a form of breathing. The inhalation of experience, its transformation to a memory and its exhalation as sound, story, picture. What then? What common bonds exist to allow memory to be understood in another place by an other. And in remembering memory, we create a new memory of remembering – as if breathing the act of recall. So the air dislocates, and finds itself , our otherness finds a place to convene, and dissonance arrives to a point of consonance – even if in small gestures of sound, space and mind’s eye.
During the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2012 an octave of Australian artists will perform work within the memory of the salon. Reading simultaneously in their chosen language, the poets will be drawn to speak by two experimental musicians. This performance draws on the debate that our various languages are memories of a universal language. We may indeed share one memory, one place, otherness. You are invited to remember memory of language, thought and place.
