Event Description

The NSW Writers’ Centre is thrilled to invite you to Apoetic: A Festival of Innovative Australian Poetry on Saturday 29 June. The festival is curated by Peter Minter.

New Horizons in Australian Poetry

Over the past decade Australian poetry has enjoyed a great rejuvenation, not least amongst those forward-looking poets who seek out new modes of expression that speak honestly to their radical experiences of contemporary life. Apoetic: Festival of Innovative Australian Poetry celebrates poetry’s revolutionary promise, bringing together a selection of established and emerging poets whose work challenges received conventions about nation, race, language and environment. Hear some of our best Aboriginal poets read and reflect on the twentieth anniversary of the passing of both Oodgeroo Noonuccal and Kevin Gilbert, and enjoy discussions and readings by leading innovators and experimenters. Begin to imagine a radical antipodean poetics for the twenty-first century!

The Festival will be opened by Leichhardt Mayor Darcy Byrne.

Confirmed presenters: Ali Cobby Eckermann, Lionel Fogarty, Tony Birch, Kerry Reed-Gilbert, Samuel Wagan Watson, Fiona Hile, Luke Fischer, Astrid Lorange, Toby Fitch, Eddie Hopely, Corey Wakeling, Kate Fagan, Jessica Wilkinson, Michael Farrell, Kate Lilley, Stuart Cooke, Mathew Abbott and Ann Vickery.
